About Religious Education Program
Welcome to our Religious Education Program! It is our privilege to assist you in the education and formation of your children in the Roman Catholic tradition. Our goal is to live and learn and pray together as a community of faith; for the real church is found in the quality of our relationship with God, with ourselves, and with one another. So let’s get to know each other, make St. Tars an extension of our homes, and praise and serve God together!
The peace of Christ be with you and with your children always.
Mrs. Kieran Lyons - Director of Religious Education
Mrs. Teresa Gillespie - Program Secretary
PROGRAM POLICIES
Sacraments: Children are required to have two years of Religious Education in order to receive the sacraments.
We must have a Baptismal Certificate for children who have been baptized in other parishes, as well as First Eucharist Certificates if that sacrament has been received in another parish.
Expectations of Parents: Parents are the primary educators of their children. Please help your children by supporting the efforts of their catechist, helping them learn their prayers, and going to Sunday Mass regularly.
Expectations of Children: Children are expected to attend all classes, be on time, and act in a respectful manner to their catechists and all other children in the program.
Absence: If your child is ill, please call and let us know that they will not be present. It is expected that work will be made up if a child misses a class. Parents and students are expected to be in touch with their child’s catechist to make these arrangements. Three absences may result in dismissal from the program.
Picking Children Up: If you need to pick up your children early, please come inside. We will ask you to sign out the child. This is for your child’s protection and ours. We do not want children lingering outside the building waiting for parents.
Weather Emergencies: You will be called by your child’s catechist. We will also have the closing broadcast on WGN AM radio 720, WBBM news radio 78, and on the television channels 2, 5, 7, 9, 32 and cable channel CLTV.
The St. Tarcissus Parish Religious Education Program is operated under the auspices of the Catholic Bishop of Chicago, a corporation sole, in the Archdiocese of Chicago.
The St. Tarcissus Parish Religious Education Program admits students of any sex, race, color, or national and ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students in this Religious Education Program.
Lord Jesus Christ
You are “the Way, the Truth and the Life.”
Show me how to love my sisters and brothers,
not merely in speech, but in deed, in fact, and in truth.
