2020-2021 RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM

Dear Families of St. Elizabeth of the Trinity,

Welcome to the Religious Ed Program!

I would like to introduce myself as the Director of Children’s Faith Formation here at St. Elizabeth of the Trinity. In addition to coordinating the religious education program, I will be teaching the 7th and 8th grade religion classes in our school.

Having been in Catholic education for over twenty years, both as a teacher and administrator in schools and as a religious ed program assistant director of a parish, I am excited to partner with you as you raise your children in the Catholic faith. Our Faith is so beautiful and profound that it should light up our whole life, giving us guidance, help, strength, spiritual joy, and protection. A Catholic is never alone for Christ walks with us each day of our lives! We want our children - your children - to have that security in their lives.

As we plan for the 2020-21 religious ed program year, I want you to know that St. Elizabeth of the Trinity is working closely with the Archdiocese of Chicago to safely reopen the religious ed program. Below you will find the tuition rates and fees for the upcoming year as well as information regarding registration. I encourage you to register as soon as possible and take advantage of the early bird discount that runs through August 31st.

IMPORTANT UPDATE AS OF JULY 29, 2020 - The Archdiocese of Chicago updated its reopening guidelines to offer religious ed programs the choice of a completely virtual program or a hybrid program that would include once a month in person classes combined with virtual learning. St. Elizabeth of the Trinity is intending to follow the hybrid model with in person classes generally meeting the first Sunday of the month and virtual classes generally being held the third Sunday of the month. Because the frequency of in person instruction is limited to once a month, class time has been extended by fifteen minutes and will now meet from 10 am to 11:30 am. The first class, which will be held in person, is scheduled for Sunday, September 20th. A more detailed religious ed program calendar will be provided in August.

Your patience and flexibility is greatly appreciated as we navigate the times in which we find ourselves.

We need a volunteer to help during the week with some religious ed program administrative tasks as well as a volunteer to assist in the religious ed program office on class days. If you are interested, please contact me at the parish office.

I very much look forward to meeting all of you in the coming weeks and months.

Let’s pray for each other - and for the children of St. Elizabeth of the Trinity!

Faithfully yours,
Kathleen Driscoll - Director of Children’s Faith Formation

RELIGIOUS ED FAQs

When will classes be held?

Religious education classes for students in 1st-8th grades will meet in person generally on the first Sunday of the month from 10 to 11:30 am, in the school building. Virtual classes will generally be held on the third Sunday of the month. Students and their families are encouraged to attend the 9am Mass prior to in person classes.

When do religious ed classes begin?

Classes will begin Sunday, September 20th. Even though this is not the first Sunday of the month, this class will be held in person.

When will registration begin?

Registration forms can be printed using the link above, at the parish rectory or by emailing Kathleen Driscoll (kadriscoll@archchicago.org or 773-763-8228). Class assignments and the religious ed program calendar will be provided in August.

With the current pandemic, will religious education classes meet face-to-face?

Yes, students and teachers will be gathering for in person instruction beginning September 20th. In consultation with medical experts, the Archdiocese of Chicago has set forth a comprehensive reopening plan that follows the guidance of federal and state authorities. All students and catechists will be required to wear masks.

Will masks be required?

Yes, all catechists and students are required to wear a mask at all times in the school building. Parents are asked that the mask used for religious education not be the same mask used at the child’s school, unless the mask has been sanitized prior to religious ed.

What happens if there is a COVID-19 surge in greater Chicago and the state imposes more restrictions on schools?

If a COVID-19 surge occurs, we will work closely with state officials to determine whether we can continue face-to-face instruction (even on an alternate schedule). If necessary, we will return to at-home virtual instruction.
